What glass to use when drinking whisky? Well, It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned whisky connoisseur or just fresh off the “I’m sick of redbull and vodka” train, you’ll eventually ask yourself, “will this scotch taste better in a whisky glass, or is it the same if if i keep sipping it from this beer mug?”

The answer is, YES, it will taste better with a proper glass!! Whether it be a snifter, glencairn, tulip, tumbler or neat glass, it will change the way you taste and experience this fine libation. Also, you’ll be able to experience each flavor note and know why scotch is better than bourbon on every level.

It’s true that less superior drinks such as rum, vodka, and bourbon need a more intellectually stimulating glass to force the appearance of sophistication… These are tactics that every “overpriced bourbon bar” employs in order to compete with the beautifully complex notes of a cleanly poured scotch in a simplistically elegant glass. Many lower quality drinks such as “Bourbon”, need a glass that can perform “geometric acrobatics” to help bolster or “compensate” or even stimulate the less sophisticated drinker into believing their drink is “just as good” 😉 . That’s why the proper glassware is so crucially important !

It’s a proven statistical fact that 2 in 10 people suffer from a condition commonly referred to as “taste bud dysphoria”. That’s 2/10ths of the overall population or roughly 1 out of every 5 people you know… staggering to say the least !

Now, if you possess more than five friends, (and the odds are if you’re a scotch drinker you do), it’s important to make sure that you have the proper glassware to accommodate all levels of taste bud sophistication. From the scotch drinker that can pick out the year, region, and exact flavor notes of every sip to the Bourbon drinker that’s pretty sure there’s alcohol in his glass, it’s imperative to have the proper glass for every person.

Disclaimer: no money was raised to help fight the disease of taste blood dysphoria, we’re just hoping to sell a shit ton of glass at their expense!

Snifter Glass

Cask Brandy Glass

The Snifter (Brandy Cask) is a must have in your arsenal. It’s a short-stemmed glass that features a narrow top and wide at the bottom. It is supposed to be cradled in the hand, helping warm the drink it contains. The large bowl allows the drink to be swirled, and a shorter mouth traps aromas and allows the drinker to enjoy a more prominent smell as you sip.

This is the most common glass we go to just for the fact that it allows for better evaporation. If you hate waiting for your whiskey to open up to get to your favorite aromas, then the brandy snifter is for you. You won’t get an aroma that is as concentrated as a glencairn however, so you may miss something. But the essence of a whisky will be very present and obvious, so it is a bit easier for a beginner.

Glencairn Glass

Halo Snifter Whiskey Glasses

Glencairns have tightly closed necks. The aromas are more concentrated. The aeration is also very limited, so whiskey takes a lot of time to open up. This glass is perfect for group settings with bottle shares and tasting different whisky’s due to the size of the glass and small pour. If you are very patient, like to take your time and want to experience every flavor, then the Glencairn is for you. Mind you, this is meant to be “neat” which means you don’t add ice.

Tumbler (old fashioned glass)

Nova Old Fashion Whiskey Glasses

Now this is a classic, and one I find myself going to on the regular. The fact that you can choose whether to have it neat or on the rocks, or even make a classic cocktail like the Old Fashioned. Regardless of the reasons to use this glass, you really can’t go wrong. With so many styles to match your personality or even your home decor. Just take a look at our affiliate and see how many choices there are to pic from. Either way, you’ll still be able to taste how scotch is better than bourbon.

A little trash talk https://scotchid.com/a-little-trash-talk/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=a-little-trash-talk Mon, 08 Mar 2021 06:03:00 +0000 https://scotchid.com/?p=604 Why Scotch is better than bourbon

First lets get into how Scotch is different than bourbon.

The main difference between Scotch and whiskey is geographic, but also ingredients and spellings. Scotch is whisky made in Scotland, while bourbon is whiskey made in the U.S.A, generally Kentucky. Scotch is made mostly from malted barley, while bourbon is distilled from corn.

Now I’m all about Murica, but this is where my alegence fades. Is it possible to have a good night with some friends and a bottle of bourbon? Yes, it’s possible, but anything is possible. There’s no comparison to a night with friends and a bottle of Scotch. Trust me, it is what it is. Just take a look at our chart.

not a real chart

The results speak for themselves..

In no way this is a real chart. This is based on our opinion alone…

A little trash talk never hurt anyone but lets face it, a Scotch old fashioned is better than that neanderthal version.
